Discover Ayurvedic Hair Care & Deep Nourishment

Did You know that according to Ayurvedic wisdom hair is a byproduct of the bone tissue?

This means that the health of our hair reflects the vitality of our bones.

That’s why traditional Ayurvedic approach to hair care starts from within and takes a whole body approach.

Healthy bone & hair nourishment

From an Ayurvedic perspective, strong hair begins with properly nourished asthi dhatu (bone tissue) and balanced digestion.

Foods that traditionally support both bones and hair include:

  • Sesame seeds  – rich in calcium, magnesium, and healthy fats; considered one of the best foods for strengthening bones and supporting hair growth.
  • Leafy greens like spinach – provide iron and minerals that help nourish the scalp and support healthy hair roots.
  • Amla (Indian gooseberry) – one of Ayurveda’s key rasayana (rejuvenating) foods, naturally high in vitamin C and known to support collagen formation and hair vitality
  • Dates and figs – nourishing, mineral-rich, and supportive for both bone density and overall tissue strength.
  • Nuts (especially almonds and walnuts) – provide vitamin E and healthy fats that help maintain scalp moisture and hair strength.

Herbal oils for the scalp & hair

Regular oleation of scalp and hair nourishes the scalp and helps increase hair thickness and quality. It also helps stimulate hair growth and improves the texture of the hair and protects it from the dryness of water and chemical damage.

In Ayurveda the most powerful herb for hair strength is Bhringaraj or false daisy, known as “ The King of Hair”, a rich source of nutrients such as iron, vitamin D and E and magnesium. It naturally restores and nurtures damaged hair back to health, promoting hair growth and maintaining overall hair vitality and scalp health.

Scalp massage stimulates circulation and better oxygen & nutrient absorption by the hair follicles.

Leave the hair oil as long as possible on dry hair, ideally for a whole night and make sure you use a mild natural hair cleanser to remove the oil. Do not over wash and avoid scrubbing hard with a towel or using a hairdryer that’s too hot.

Herbal cleansers

After oiling, cleansing becomes just as important. In Ayurveda, hair is not stripped but gently purified using plant-based ingredients that maintain the scalp’s natural balance.

Traditional herbal cleansers often include:

  • Bhringraj – promotes hair growth and also keeps the hair lustrous.
  • Hibiscus – rich in anti-oxidants helps in reversing the damage caused to the skin by UV rays, dust, pollutants etc. It also has hair growth properties. With anti-bacterial properties, Hibiscus has natural surfactants called Saponins that help in cleansing your skin the natural way.
  • Reetha (soapnut) – a well-known Ayurvedic herb used in natural hair care. It gently cleanses the scalp without stripping natural oils, while helping to keep hair soft, shiny, and healthy. Thanks to its natural conditioning and antimicrobial properties, it also supports scalp balance and can help protect against irritation and infections.

You can find these herbal formulations in our Ayurvedic Hair Cleanser and Conditioner that cleanse while preserving the scalp’s natural balance.
