Herb for Spring: Dandelion

Herb for Spring: Dandelion

In Ayurveda, spring is the natural season for cleansing.

During winter, our bodies accumulate toxins (ama) due to heavier foods and sluggish digetsion. As spring arrives, the increasing warmth can activate these accumulated toxins leading to imbalances – think of colds and allergies typical of this season.

In Ayurveda, this seasonal transition (Ritu Sandhi) holds immense significance, offering a unique opportunity for cleansing and realigning with nature.

One simple way to do this is through dandelion.

This humble spring herb is known for its cleansing and stimulating properties. Dandelion supports the liver and digestion, helping the body to flush out toxins and excess fluids that may have built up during winter. It also encourages better bile flow, which plays a key role in detoxification.

Drinking dandelion tea regularly in spring can help to:

  • Support liver function
  • Reduce heaviness and water retention
  • Stimulate digestion
  • Gently cleanse the system

A warm cup in the morning or between meals is often enough to support this seasonal transition.
