In Ayurveda, summer is Pitta season, bringing more heat and intensity into the system.
Longer daylight hours can delay melatonin production, making it harder to wind down at night. At the same time, heat and humidity can feel draining during the day.
A few simple things that can help this time of year:
- Stay hydrated, especially in heat and humidity, organic coconut water is perfect for this time of year.
- Practice moonbathing instead of sunbathing.
- Try to keep a consistent bedtime, even when it’s not completely dark outside.
- Create a cooler calmer sleep environment using essential oils like lavender.
- Power down screens at least one hour bedore bedtime to give your mind a chance to relax and slow down clearing the mental stimulation from the day behind.
- Unwind and refresh with a spritz of lavender water before hitting the pillow. If temperatures are extra hot, keep the lavender water in the fridge for extra cooling.
- To continue with the relaxation and to invite deep sleep, massage your feet, jaws and temples with a deep sleep oil.
- Once your head hits the pillow, take a few moments to review your day, breathe in and out calmly and gently cover your eyes with an eye pillow to block out all light, naturally calm down the nervous system and go within.
Nothing complicated, just some small adjustments that support the body’s natural rhythm.
Wishing you a deep summer sleep.
